We will do an intake assessment together, and review the treatment plan together to ensure your understanding and agreement. This may include brief check in's before/after sessions, or adding family sessions-it's unique to what is the most beneficial to each child & family!
Parents-unless your child voices harm to self or others, we will likely have a 5ish minute debrief with your child present at the end of sesion to share information, but otherwise all the information your child shares during sessions is kept confidential to ensure that your child is getting the maximum effectiveness fron therapy sessions. Just like with adults, therapy isn't effective if someone feels their words will be shared without their consent. The goal is to encourage and work towards you and your child having these conversations with each other-which may mean adding some family sessions.
My physical office location is a shared office space and there is no congregate lobby area, so while your child is in session with me you can wait outside, in your vehicle, or go grab a coffee!
In our intake session, I will gather information about what brings you to therapy, and what goals you would like to accomplish. From there, we will have a treatment plan that we use to guide our sessions to be as effective for you as possible-and we will check in periodically to make sure we stay on track.
*Couples therapy is frequently excluded from insurance coverage. Please contact your insurance carrier to verify they will cover couples counseling *
In couples or family, you all are the client-there is no one person singled out. Much like groups, there are no secrets-everything is open and discussed in the group setting. My goal is to see what your goal is, and how to support and coach the entire unit to achieve that goal. Think of it like a clock-every gear and piece has a different specific purpose and works a little differently, but the overall goal they have is to work harmoniously together to help the clock tick along. Sometimes people in the couple/family also have individual counseling-that could be with me (but more likely with someone else) to ensure family counseling sessions are as efficient and productive as possible.
I am currently not offering any groups-please email me if you have interest in a group topic to see what we can create!
Everything is in the group setting- so all conversation and discussion happens in the group! Some members may be recieving individual counseling as well, but not all will be.
This is typically the longest session, and the one you will see me type the most in. During this session, I will review information from your intake forms, and gather more information about your wants and needs from me in counseling. I will provide you with a tentative treatment plan for you to consider prior to our next session so you can research, consider options, and provide feedback to ensure we collaboratively come up with the best plan to support you in accomplishing your goals.
